Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are taught to prepare for emergencies by having a one-year food storage as well as an immediate two-week supply of food, water, and money. Stocking up on food storage is just one of the many ways that we can prepare for the troubled times we now live in.
If you don’t have any food storage yet, you can get it done at the cannery. You volunteer your time and labor (along with others), and only pay for the cost of the food itself. This is for stuff that you would need in bulk, such as grains, beans, et cetera. The other part of your food storage should come from the grocery store for items that you use on a regular basis, such as canned goods, and should be rotated every six months or so. A good way to start is tithing your food budget.
By using 10 percent of your food budget for food storage, you will be able to grow your supply easily and without much struggle. For example, when you go grocery shopping with a budget of $100, spend the first $10 on food storage items (specifically things that you need and that are on sale), then the remaining $90 on your regular groceries on your list. You will be amazed at quickly you are able to build up your food storage this way.
Now that Obama will be our next president, it is clearly evident that “change” will happen, and it will be only worse than it is now. Time to get started on the preparations.

I joined a Yahoo groups list on food storage because I recently started my food storage (this year!!) someone on the list mentioned that the government can take your food storage if they want to… but then when I asked my mom about it today she told me that after Hurricane Andrew (1993 I think) the LDS church sued the government for doing that, saying it was infringing on religious freedom because food storage is a part of “our religion”. My mom said that the government can still take food storage from people, just not LDS folks. I am wondering if there is any truth to this?
She also mentioned that if the government declares Martial Law (I had to look that up and read about it) that they can take anyone’s food storage, etc. This is a separate thing from my first comment above. And this would apply to LDS folks, too. I would love to hear anyone’s comments about this.
I am not aware of, nor have I heard of, any lawsuit as you describe. It is true that by executive order of the President of the United States that they could take your food storage. However, not all presidential executive orders are necessarily constitutional. If such an order was to be executed in the midst of martial law, the least of your worries would be them taking your food storage.
This is why you not only store food, but also Guns & Ammo in your basement AND NEVER TELL ANYONE!!! Make a section of your house/basement a Shelter of the 1950’s-type…steel door, heavy interior lock & bar. Once you are IN, nobody is getting IN without a bulldozer kind of Safe Room.
