Although Hurricane season is past, now is the time to make preparations for this coming season. The Scorpians song, “Rock You Like a Hurricane,” takes new meaning for those in the Gulf Coast in and around the Houston area. With nearly 5 million people without power, this storm has caused major damage, not only physically, but economically for business that was not able to be operational for several weeks.

Most people were not prepared for the devestation. Many people were without power for several weeks. Some stores re-opened early on generator power, and the few gas stations that did have power to pump gas saw extremely long lines. The scarcity of ice, fuel, food, water, and generators caused people to be on edge and many riots and fights took place where the sheriffs had to intervene.

Do people not realize the need to prepare? If only they kept a full tank of gas before the storm hit. How about that year supply of food and 2 week supply of water? Or even buying a generator, chainsaw, or portable gas stove before hurricane season began. I’m sure those people who were prepared fared just fine. Yea, there may be the inconvenience of not having power, but at least being prepared gives a great deal of comfort.
