Believe it or not, but Wal-Mart now carries products for long-term food storage and emergency preparedness. …at least at the Wal-Mart where I have recently been. You can get 55 gallon water storage barrels, as well as the dry pack foods. Some items are even less expensive than the LDS cannery. There are also many items that you can not get at the cannery, such as dried eggs, dried butter, various soup mixes, shredded potatoes, dehydrated vegetables (such as corn and peas). This is a great way to stock up and has a convenience factor built in as well. Now there really is NO EXCUSE not to have your year supply!

Can you list some brand names & specific items? Our local super Walmart doesn’t have this stuff, but with ‘site to store’ they can order anything any Walmart carries and have it delivered locally. What are the prices on the water containers? thanks for any help you can give.

There are two companies supplying the food products: “Harvest of the West” and “Augason Farms.” They have various soup mixes, dehydrated and/or freeze dried vegetables and fruits, potato shreds/slices, as well as powdered honey, powdered tomato sauce, powdered eggs, powdered butter/margarine, and much more. The water containers are priced at about $47.
I was wondering if you know which stores carry these products? I am in Colorado and can not find a store that knows what I am talking about. Is this a regional supply?
It appears that this was only tested out in one store. The selection has since diminished quite a bit from when they started doing this about 9 months ago; perhaps it is because there has not been enough interest or maybe poor contract negotiations with the supplier. I have tried to find food storage products in other Wal-Mart locations as well, and the rest only carry the water barrels and canning jars and such.
