There is a lot of misconceptions about Tasers from both ends of the spectrum. Some say Tasers are dangerous and can cause harm and others have said that they really do not have any affect. Others are skeptical of the results, while some have fear in using them. Well, none of those people have ever been tased.

Occasionally, some of my CCW students have the opportunity to learn about the effectiveness of a Taser via first hand experience. Last month, a student in my class, a Marine on leave, submitted to the Taser experience.

As with any product you use (or sell), you have to have absolute confidence in the product or it will be of no use to you. Before making my purchase of a taser, I myself willingly submitted to be tased for 5 seconds (the same length of time used by Police and Law Enforcement). I figured if I’m ever going to use the product, I need to know how effective it is. Based on that experience, I bought 2 of them instantly, one for myself and one for my wife.

I carry a firearm on a regular basis; however, lethal defense is not always the best option. A Taser provides the means of non-lethal defense. I now carry a Taser in addition to my regular firearm. The civilian or consumer Tasers operate for 30 seconds which provides enough time to call the police or leave the scene.
